Why Not Use the Best-Selling Exam Prep Book and Audio Program in the History of Counseling?
Dear graduating counselor,
I have had tremendous success helping counselors pass the CPCE or Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination. This is the exam distributed via The Center for Credentialing & Education, or CCE (a corporate affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors, or NBCC).
What Exactly is the CPCE?
The CPCE was first introduced in 1997 and is now used by approximately 400 programs in 45 states to assess a student’s knowledge of counseling. The exam — created to standardize the measurement of students in counseling programs — is often dubbed an “exit exam,” and in some instances, the exam may be used as a graduation requirement in place of writing a thesis or scholarly paper. In other programs, all students must take the CPCE prior to graduation. Always check with your graduate advisor for specifics pertaining to your institution of higher learning. In 2011, approximately 8,500 students will take the NCE. Simply put, the CPCE is experiencing tremendous growth!
Here is Some Unusually Good News for Counselors Getting Ready to Graduate!
Since the CPCE is based on the exact same eight content areas as the National Counselor Examination (NCE), my preparation materials are ideal! A huge percentage of our buyers are purchasing the materials for the CPCE.
How Does the CPCE Differ From the NCE?
Unlike the NCE, which contains 200 questions, the CPCE has just 160 questions. Moreover, on the NCE, the number of questions in any given exam area will vary. For example, there are more questions about the helping relationship than there are about human growth and development. Not so on the CPCE. All eight content areas contain 20 questions. In each of the eight areas, three questions are being field-tested. Hence, you will be graded on 17 questions per area. To put it differently, a perfect score on the CPCE would be 136. The CPCE is a shorter test. On the NCE, you answer 200 questions. One hundred sixty are graded. On the CPCE, you answer 160 questions, and 136 are graded. The Center for Credentialing & Education reports that the instrument has excellent validity.
